San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy might not have much longer to wait until he gets paid like the big boys.
Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reported Wednesday afternoon the two parties have been in active negotiations on a long-term deal. Their target is to have the deal signed prior to the start of the 2025 season.
It appears from what Schultz reported, the deal will have annual average value of at least $50 million. It could also surpass the annual average value of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott's deal inked last summer with an annual average value of $60 million.
"Earlier in the 2024 season, it seemed possible that Purdy could surpass Dak Prescott's $60 million annual clip with the Cowboys if he had another stellar campaign and deep playoff run," Schultz said. "While that now seems less likely, multiple sources insist that Purdy could still land "anywhere from $50-$55 million, or potentially more."
Spotrac puts Purdy's value at a $59.7 million annual average. Should the 49ers be able to sign him for less than that, it might be considered a coup.

Purdy has put together quite the resume since he was the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. Purdy led the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2023. He was the frontrunner for the NFL Most Valuable Player Award that season before some late-season struggles, but has continued to prove himself as one of the league's better quarterbacks.
He was less steady in 2024, but that was mostly due to injuries at running back and receiver. He'll look to bounce back this season with a full arsenal of talent around him and ultimately bring San Francisco back to the playoffs.
