Havana, March 26 (ACN) Representing 35 nations sharing similar stances, Cuba condemned on Wednesday, at the UN Human Rights Council, the serious and systematic violations of human rights committed by Israel against the Palestinian people.
Cuba’s permanent representative at the United Nations office in Geneva, Rodolfo Benitez, presented a joint declaration at the debate on the situation of fundamental rights in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories.
All 35 states represented by Cuba at the Council condemned the attacks by Israeli occupation forces against the helpless Palestinian population and the criminal blockade of food, fuels and medical supplies, the Cuban Foreign Ministry reported.
The group of nations demanded an immediate ceasefire and the entrance, without restrictions, of humanitarian aid into Gaza Strip. They also urged the Human Rights Council to take further action to end the tragic situation and guarantee accountability for it.
The 35 countries ratified their support of the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination; they demanded the end of the illegal Israeli occupation and the setting of an independent Palestinian state within the borders established prior to 1967 with East Jerusalem as its city capital. They also backed the full-fledged Palestinian membership at the United Nations.
The joint declaration was penned by Cuba, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Eritrea, Palestine, Russia, Equatorial Guinea, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, and Kuwait.
Other countries included Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Namibia, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, PDRK, South Africa, Sudan, Türkiye, Venezuela, Yemen and Zimbabwe.
