Aaron Rodgers is watching his available options shrink around him. Many thought that the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers would wait for the quarterback to sign with one of the organizations and the other would take it from there.
However, the Giants were over waiting on Rodgers to decide and agreed to a one-year contract with Russell Wilson, the other big-name quarterback on the free-agent market this offseason.
Now, it seems as if Rodgers’ last option is to sign with the Steelers, barring an unlikely signing with the Minnesota Vikings. Unless, of course, Rodgers elects to retire, which ESPN’s Adam Schefter has confirmed is a legitimate option for the quarterback.
“I’m hearing he might not want to play,” Schefter said, according to ESPN Milwaukee.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“How would that be any different from the last 5 years? He doesn’t even like football. He only likes himself, the money & the attention it brings him,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Pipe dreams but I still think he’d enjoy as a swan song letting GB trade Malik and signing a 2 year deal to finish his career in GB as Love’s backup,” another fan added.
“My god he’s obviously going to play, he knows if he retires nobody will talk about him anymore,” another person added.
It’ll be interesting to see which route Rodgers decides to take.
