Russell Wilson’s Blunt Opinion on Giants Adding QB in NFL Draft

After two seasons with the Denver Broncos and one more with the Pittsburgh Steelers, veteran quarterback Russell Wilson will be heading to the Tri-state area for the 2025 NFL season.

He agreed to a one-year contract with the New York Giants that will pay him up to $21 million on Tuesday, and it has given them an interesting quarterback situation.

They not only have Wilson, but also Jameis Winston, another capable if not dazzling veteran, at the position, and it could set up a potential quarterback controversy.

Still, there is a belief that New York will look to take a quarterback in next month's draft. They have the No. 3 pick, and there is always a chance they will trade up in order to take Cam Ward from the University of Miami.

Wilson gave his thoughts on the Giants possibly adding a young signal-caller through the draft.

"If we draft a quarterback, we'll make sure that he does everything he can to be ready to go and be prepared with his mentality," Wilson said. "But for me it's about the process of winning, I'm focused on winning, what I can do as the quarterback of the New York Giants."

Some may wonder why the Giants would add a third QB who may want to start at some point this fall or winter. On the other hand, neither Wilson nor Winston is exactly a long-term solution, nor are either of them championship-level players.

Of course, Wilson once led the Seattle Seahawks to the Super Bowl championship during the 2013 season, and he got them to the brink of a second straight Vince Lombardi Trophy the following year. He is still an effective game manager who can hold things down, but he isn't the type of player who can carry a team anymore.

The Giants are still building for what they hope will be a happier tomorrow. Right now, wide receiver Malik Nabers is their only real threat at the skill positions, and they have one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL.
