BROOKINGS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -Today was a big day for several former college standouts from area teams who gathered in Brookings.
They were there for SDSU’s Pro Day as former Jackrabbits like Amar Johnson, Adam Bock and Brookings native Gus Miller were trying to impress the 32 NFL teams that were in attendance.
These athletes run through a variety of drills just like at the NFL combine. So it’s something they have been training for since the college season ended in Fargo in the semi-finals. Kind of a nerve-wracking day, but one they’ve really been looking forward to.
Gus Miller says, “To me, I just still think that I’m that walk-on offensive lineman from Brookings, hometown. Sometimes, it’s still incredible to me, and it’s a huge honor.”
Adam Bock says, “You just work so long for just one opportunity. You’re trying to feel your best today. So the days and weeks leading into it, there’s a little bit of nerves. You want to put your best foot forward.”
Amar Johnson says, “A lot of them were coming up to me and saying that I had a terrific day, and that’s what they needed to see. You know, they were saying they’re going to text me after this, and have a discussion or get on a Zoom call. Hearing that is great for me. Already a guy coming from the FCS, and seeing guys like Pierre Strong Jr. and Isaiah Davis do it, and just kind of feeling like you’re next up.”
The NFL Draft is being held in Green Bay in just under a month. There were 8 former Jackrabbits who were in NFL camps last year.
