Jayson Tatum injury: Boston Celtics star downgraded to out for Suns game

PHOENIX — While it looked like there was a chance Jayson Tatum could play just two days after spraining his left ankle, that won’t be the case. The Celtics downgraded him to out on the injury report ahead of the 10 p.m. Wednesday game against the Suns.

Tatum was present at Celtics shootaround earlier Wednesday, getting in some shots and a light workout. He was then upgraded on the injury report as he went from doubtful to questionable. All those signs pointed to how the ankle injury wasn’t anything serious long-term going forward.

But the team will rest him for at least Wednesday’s game. C’s coach Joe Mazzulla said pregame that Tatum would test out his ankle to see how it feels. Still, it’s a positive that there appeared to be a chance Tatum could play just days after spraining his left ankle against the Kings on Monday.

The Celtics are healthy otherwise as only Xavier Tillman (knee) is out on the injury report. That means they’re healthy on the roster other than Tatum when it comes to their rotation. The C’s are currently on a six-game win streak and are 3-0 on their six-game road trip as they face the Suns.
