LeBron James can't stop going back and forth with Stephen A. Smith after their recent beef became heightened with James' appearance on the Pat McAfee show. LeBron slammed Stephen A. for going on a media tour attacking him after the Lakers forward confronted Stephen A. during a game about his attacks on Bronny James' NBA career.
After LeBron hit his first buzzer-beater in a Lakers jersey to beat the Indiana Pacers 120-119, James took to Instagram to mock Stephen A. by sharing an old video of Smith's boxing training.
"WHOMP WHOMP WHOMPPPPPPPP."
After LeBron appeared on McAfee's show, Stephen A. rehashed his on-court confrontation with James from earlier this month. Smith took to his podcast to discuss the incident with LeBron potentially getting physical, admitting he'd likely get beaten up by LeBron, but not before he threw a punch to defend himself
"When he approached me while I was sitting courtside at that game against the New York Knicks, I didn't know he was gonna roll up on me. When he said what he had to say, I was in no position to give any kind of retort without making a scene. It was during the third quarter, fresh out of a timeout, it was on national television, and had I done something, what do you want time to do? Had that man put his hands on me, I would have immediately swung on him."
The fact that Smith brought up violence is insane in the first place because nobody thought LeBron was going to go and deck Smith courtside at an NBA game. Even Smith admits he didn't think LeBron would swing on him, but still brought it up to prove a point that he wouldn't be afraid to throw a punch himself.
This is a pretty bizarre story that keeps developing. This Instagram post by LeBron will likely lead to more comments by Stephen A. tomorrow on First Take, which might lead to LeBron continuing to throw shots at the ESPN host. It's a self-perpetuating cycle.
The fact that James is participating in this at all shows that he's likely personally affected by Smith's actions and words as well. Let's not forget that LeBron has never acknowledged Skip Bayless in over two decades despite Bayless holding the title as the biggest LeBron hater in the media. It seems Smith is going to take that crown, and LeBron can't ignore Stephen A. the way he has ignored Bayless all these years.
The Playoffs are just a few weeks away, so it's time LeBron leaves this behind and goes into Zero Dark Thirty mode. He needs to get off social media, as he has done in years past for Playoff runs, to focus on the court and not on the distracting noise coming from outside of it.
