EXCLUSIVE–Treble Winner Claims Arsenal Now Have A Player Who Can“Dominate”His Position For Years To Come

Danny Murphy believes Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly could “dominate” the England left-back spot for the foreseeable future.

The former Three Lions midfielder, who won a treble of cups with Liverpool in 2001, was speaking exclusively to Gooner News (courtesy of Poker Firma) and he commented that even though comparisons to Ashley Cole are premature, Lewis-Skelly has the potential to make a name for himself:

“I think he’s been a a real plus and I think if he carries on the trajectory he’s on you know we could see him dominate that position for a long time, people who kept comparing him to Ashley Cole I think that’s a bit early because of how brilliant Ash was but I understand that with these levels and the you see shown already that he could be the left back for many years to come.”

Lewis-Skelly made headlines after scoring just 20 minutes into his national team debut, becoming the youngest player to score for England in the process.

It has been a rapid rise for the Arsenal star

Lewis-Skelly hadn’t even made his first professional appearance before September last year, with his debut coming as a late substitute during the 2-2 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad.

Since then, though, the teenager has established himself as a regular starter for Mikel Arteta’s side, moving ahead of summer signing Riccardo Calafiori in the pecking order.

Lewis-Skelly deserves a new contract

Although the 18-year-old does have a professional contract, he is only earning £4,000 a week. Reports at the beginning of the year suggested he is in line for a bumper pay rise.

Considering his performances for both club and country, Arsenal will be keen to reward Lewis-Skelly with a new deal in the near future.
