Liverpool star set to get new contract after priorities decided

Liverpool star defender will reportedly see his contract extended following reports claiming a decision club’s priorities.

An update has been disclosed on the plans that Liverpool have for defender Ibrahima Konate in lieu of reported growing interest from top clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

Konate joined the Reds in 2021 after they paid his £36 million release clause to RB Leipzig that summer. The towering defender has gone on to make 124 appearances since then for the club, including 109 starts.

Liverpool star’s contract decision revealed

Konate has been a mainstay in the Liverpool defense alongside club captain Virgil van Dijk over the past year, and as a result, he has been linked with big hitters across the European continent.

Liverpool have now made it clear that they have no plans of allowing Konate depart Anfield in the near future, despite the rumoured interest from Real Madrid and PSG.

AnythingLFC via X reports, “Liverpool insist on extending Ibrahima Konate’s contract, it’s one of the main priorities for the club and they are working on it.” This indicates that the Reds want to keep the star defender at Anfield for years to come.

The French international’s contract is up in 2026, and supporters are becoming worried about a repeat of the circumstances currently surrounding Virgil van Dijk, Alexander Arnold, and Mohamed Salah who are in the final few months of their contracts.

In January, Konate confirmed a contract proposal had been made by the club, but as of the closing days in March, the defender is yet to sign a new contract with the Reds.

The Liverpool hierarchy and fans will be hoping for better luck than the club has with their star trio on the contract negotiations table.

In addition, should Virgil van Dijk leave in the summer, the importance of Konate will rise meteorically and they will be aiming to tie the French star to new terms and keep him at the club.
