10 out, 7 in - Manchester United given dream squad after huge summer transfer window rebuild

Manchester United know they need a major squad overhaul if they want to challenge for domestic honours and win the Premier League title.

United know the Europa League is their only real chance of silverware this season, having crashed out of the Carbao Cup and Fa Cup, while the league title is also well out of their reach.

It's been a tough start to life in Manchester for Ruben Amorim, with very little room for manoeuvre in the transfer market, with all signs pointing towards a huge summer rebuild.

Manchester Evening News revealed the club could offload as many as ten players this summer in an attempt to overhaul Amorim's squad.

Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton are expected to retire, while Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof are set to depart when their current contracts expire. United want to sell Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho, while Casemiro will also be made available for transfer. Altay Bayindir could also leave, along with Tyrell Malacia.

The Portuguese head coach stressed the club needed to sell players before they could add to their squad, with the club's new approach in the transfer market all about unearthing young talents before they hit their peak.

With that in mind, MEN Sport has taken a look at six players who could arrive through the door at Old Trafford to impact the squad in the here and now, as well as having one eye on the future.

Viktor Gyokeres

The first one up, is Viktor Gyokeres. United simply have to strengthen their forward line this summer and take some of the pressure off the shoulders of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

Gyokeres is a man in demand, but having worked under Amorim at Sporting CP, you'd like to think Reds would have an advantage in any negotiations. At 26-years-old, his best years are still ahead of him and his goalscoring record since moving to Portugal has been nothing short of sensational.

There may be question marks over the quality of the league, but the Swede has shown he can cut in in England too, impressing at Coventry City before earning his big move to Europe. Barcelona will likely be at the front of the race to sign the powerful forward this summer, but United should be making him their number one target.

Jobe Bellingham

Another player United should be at the front of the queue to sign, is Jobe Bellingham. The younger brother of England superstar Jude, he has been one of the standout performers in the Championship this season.

Sure, he'd be one for the future, but at 19-years-old, he's already played more senior football than his brother at the same age and it's only a matter of time before a big move comes his way. Jobe has all the attributes to slot right into Amorim's 3-4-3 system and showed last year how capable he is in playing a variety of positions.

If Sunderland fail to win promotion this season, he could be available for an enticing fee.

Chris Rigg

Another one from the Sunderland talent factory, is Chris Rigg. Tipped to be the next big star of English football, he too has enjoyed an impressive season at the Stadium of Light.

It's no secret that United have scouted the England youth international in the past, and were in talks to sign him last summer. Rigg would, however, sign his first professional contract at the Stadium of Light in order to continue his development.

The youngster has taken like a duck to water in Championship football and would be an ideal 'one for the future' in one of the number ten roles. He'd likely take some encouraging to make the move to Old Trafford, given the current trajectory he's on at his current club with guaranteed game time.

Francisco Trincao

If Rigg is a signing for the future, then Sporting winger Trincao is one for the here and now. Amorim knows just what he'd be getting in signing the Portuguese winger having signed him from Barcelona.

Recent reports have seen United linked with a £30million move for the 25-year-old, which is a respectable fee in this day and age. It's also half of what they paid for Jadon Sancho back in the day.

There are questions regarding whether or not Trincao would be able to cut it in English football having struggled during a loan spell with Wolves back in 2021-22.

Liam Delap

United know they'll have to navigate a difficult financial landscape this summer, and a move for Liam Delap could prove a shrewd piece of business. The former Manchester City youngster has impressed in a struggling Ipswich Town side and is another who could represent good value if the Tractorboys are relegated this season.

It is claimed that City included a £40million buy-back clause in the deal, which could be the benchmark for any deal this summer, with Chelsea also keen on his services. Signing both Delap and Gyokeres this summer would be a real statement of intent, albeit somewhat of an unlikely one. It is a dream summer window after all.

James Trafford

The United transfer chiefs know they'll have to box clever this summer in order to comply with PSR and a move for James Trafford would be another smart piece of business. Newcastle United have been strongly linked with a move for the England youth international, and the Magpies have recruited well in recent seasons.

Trafford is another on an upward trajectory and stealing the march on their Premier League rivals would be another smart piece of business. The Burnley shotstopper has impressed in the Championship this season and with doubts over Andre Onana's future at the club, a move for a goalkeeper is paramount.

If United can sell Onana for a big fee this month, they could pull off a bargain swoop for the former City shot stopper.

Jeremie Frimpong

United strengthened the left-hand side of the defence in January in signing Patrick Dorgu, and signing Jeremie Frimpong for the right-hand side of the defence would be another smart piece of business.

The club have reportedly held talks with Frimpong's representatives over a potential summer move, according to Graeme Bailey of TBR Football.

The defender is a natural in the wing-back position and is said to be available for a fee in the region of £30million.
