West Ham have made Burnley centre-back CJ Egan-Riley a “top target” for the summer transfer window, according to ExWHUEmployee.
Writing on the West Ham Way Patreon (quotes via their website), the insider revealed that the Hammers have been looking at several players in the Clarets’ starting eleven, including goalkeeper James Trafford, but Egan-Riley is the one who has been identified as the no.1 priority:
“The other club where we like a number of players is Burnley, again those players include: Bashir Humphreys, Maxime Esteve, CJ Egan-Riley and goalkeeper James Trafford.”

“Out of this bunch of players at the moment, it seems that CJ Egan-Riley is the top target. The England under-21 player is versatile and can operate at right back, centre back and as a defensive midfielder. He has been part of a very impressive Burnley back line this year.”
Burnley’s strong defence has been the backbone of their promotion challenge
Scott Parker’s side have only conceded 11 goals in 38 league games this season which is a phenomenal record. Egan-Riley has played a key role in helping his team keep regular clean sheets.
The former Manchester City academy player has started 32 times in the Championship, having formed a formidable partnership with Maxime Esteve.
West Ham have been linked with Trafford by other sources
While Egan-Riley has certainly played his part, Burnley’s goalkeeper is the one who has received most of the praise for their sterling defensive efforts this season.
Reports suggest the Irons may rival the likes of Newcastle and Manchester United for James Trafford’s signature.
Many fans believe that Graham Potter’s side could do with a new No.1 but it remains to be seen whether they are willing to shell out the £30m required to land Trafford.
