The 19-year-old centre-back is reportedly in demand this summer from Premier League teams.

Man United look set to address several positions in the summer window with one of them being at centre-back.

Ruben Amorim likes to play a back three, but hasn’t been able to find a consistent trio that suits the formation this season. Plus, injuries to the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire, have caused even more problems.

Seeing as Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof’s contracts are due to expire at the end of the season too, United will have a lack of depth at the back, and so are expected to sign a centre-back in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United and Aston Villa to battle for Akcicek

The latest defender that United have been linked to is Fenerbahce centre-back Yusuf Akcicek, who has made 16 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist. He has played a heavy role in the Turkish side’s Europa League campaign too, which came to an end when they lost to Rangers in the round of 16, the Scottish side will play Athletic Bilbao in the Quarter-finals.

According to Turkish newspaper Sabah via Sport Witness, United are keen on signing the defender alongside Premier League rivals Aston Villa, who are looking for a summer replacement for Axel Disasi, who will return to Chelsea after his loan spell ends in June. The report also suggests that Chelsea are keen on Akcicek, and have sent scouts to watch him already at Fenerbahce. He plays as a centre-back but can feature on either side of a back three, which would mean that the 19-year-old could fit into Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation at Old Trafford.

He is under contract at the Turkish club until 2028, and has a current market value of just £4.6m, although it is expected that his price in the summer will be a lot higher due to his potential and young age.

Man United also linked to fellow 19-year-old centre-back

Akcicek isn’t the only 19-year-old centre-back that has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks as they have also a reported interest in Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen. The Spaniard has generated a lot of interest in what is just his first season in the Premier League after moving from Juventus last summer.

The 19-year-old has a release clause of £50 million and has made 23 Premer League appearances this season for the Cherries. He also made his first international appearance for the Spanish National Team this month, coming on as a substitute in a 2-2 draw with the Netherlands. However, if United didn’t want to spend big at the centre-back position after signing Yoro and De Ligt last summer, it would make more sense for them to pursue the likes of Akcicek, who would be much cheaper than Huijsen.
