Sunderland loanee sets out summer transfer stance ahead of club 'conversations'

Triantis has only made three first team appearances for Sunderland since joining in the summer of 2023, but the 21-year-old has enjoyed a hugely impressive loan spell with Hibs this season, his second stint with the Scottish Premiership side.

Hibs would love to make Triantis' deal permanent in the summer, and the Aussie - who has been transformed from a defender into a midfielder at Easter Road - admits he now has an emotional attachment to the Scottish club.

But he's also told of his desire to succeed in England, and will almost certainly want the opportunity to try and catch the eye of Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris come the summer and the start of pre-season.

"My parent club is [Sunderland](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/football/sunderland/) but I've got a good soft place for Hibs,” said Triantis, who received his first senior international call-up this month.

“I've spent an extended time there on loan, now extending to 18 months overall. So I've had a good time with Hibs, and I just have to see in the summer what happens. That's another goal of mine - to be in the Premier League, the best league in the world. I think that's where all players aspire to be.

“So it’d be a great thing for me, personally to get promoted into the Premier League, and from there, I have to work as hard as I can to earn my spot in that team."

Triantis has been a big hit with Hibs' fans, who have dubbed the midfielder the 'Aussie Rodri' and will be desperately hoping he stays in Scotland beyond this season.

Triantis said: "It (his nickname) is probably one of the best compliments you can get, so it's good to hear and I can definitely feel the love.

"That love from the fans really pushes me on and helps me. I just have to keep my head down and working hard until I get that opportunity.

"You can't let yourself down by having a weak mentality. So I just have to keep on pushing hard and waiting for my opportunity."

Hibs boss David Gray was recently quizzed on Triantis' future, saying: “There will be conversations with a number of players at the end of the season.

"He’s getting better all the time. He’s still contracted to Sunderland so we’ll address that as and when. We’ll see where that situation goes.”
