Opinion: West Ham owners to completely overrule Potter as report claims £25m man could be sold

The West Ham United owners could be set to veto Graham Potter this summer.

Graham Potter arrived at the London Stadium in early January, and was given the huge task of turning West Ham around.

Julen Lopetegui caused huge problems during his short spell in charge of the Hammers, and that means that the rebuild under Potter will be a long and sometimes painful one.

Graham Potter is keen to add more youth, dynamism and energy to his West Ham squad this summer.

The years of poor squad building at the London Stadium have finally come home to roost.

And there may have to be a few big sacrifices made this summer in order to get the Hammers back on a level footing, financially at least.

West Ham want to sell Luis Guilherme

Luis Guilherme has barely played for the Hammers this season, since swapping Palmeiras for the London Stadium.

So we don’t really know whether he’s actually any good.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

West Ham signed Guilherme for an upfront fee of £20 million in the summer of 2024, but his days at the London Stadium could well be coming to an end now.

That’s because Soccer News are claiming that the Hammers want to get rid of the 19-year-old this summer, and Feyenoord are working on a deal to sign him.

West Ham are demanding £25 million for the young Brazilian, but Feyenoord would be prefer a loan deal with an option to buy him next summer.

No surprise there then!

If the Hammers do sell Guilherme, Potter will surely not be a happy bunny at all.

Would West Ham owners really overrule Potter with Guilherme?

Graham Potter is the reason why Luis Guilherme is still at West Ham.

That’s because the Hammers were said to be selling the winger for around £20 million in the January transfer window.

However, Graham Potter insisted that Luis Guilherme should stay at West Ham, in spite of late interest from Feyenoord and a couple of Brazilian clubs.

The Hammers head coach surely hasn’t changed his mind on the former Palmeiras man within just a couple of months.

I would suggest that if Luis Guilherme is sold this summer, it will very much be a decision by the West Ham owners, rather than the head coach and his recruitment team.

I’m not sure whether the young Brazilian is good enough to be a game-changer at the highest level, but If Potter likes him then the Hammers definitely shouldn’t be selling him.
