Liverpool are braced to receive a £30million bid from Newcastle for young defender Jarell Quansah, giving Anfield chiefs a fourth transfer headache. The Reds already have three major issues, with the deals of Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold expiring this summer.

It's been widely reported this week that Alexander-Arnold has already agreed personal terms with Real Madrid while Salah and Van Dijk haven't committed to new deals. The trio's futures have been discussed throughout the season and with only the Premier League title left to play for, the focus on their situations has intensified.

Quansah, meanwhile, has four years left of his contract after breaking into the Liverpool first-team last season. The 22-year-old made 33 appearances in all competitions under Jurgen Klopp, chipping in with three goals.

Arne Slot has used Quansah less this season but turned to him for this month's Carabao Cup final when Alexander-Arnold was injured. Primarily a centre-back, the Warrington-born prospect can also play as a right-back.

Now Liverpool's opponents at Wembley, Newcastle, are eyeing a move for him following their famous 2-1 win over Slot's side. The Times report that Quansah is a potential target for the Magpies, who believe that a bid of £30m plus add-ons could be enough to tempt Liverpool into a sale.

Ready to spend big after navigating Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules in recent transfer windows, Newcastle are planning to sign a right-footed centre-back for manager Eddie Howe. Quansah is said to have significant support among senior figures at St James' Park.

Although the England youth international, who's yet to be capped at senior level despite two call-ups, has struggled for regular game-time amid Liverpool's dominant season in the Premier League, Slot is a big admirer of him - even after hooking him at half-time on the opening day of the season.

"It says a lot about his mentality," the Red boss said after Quansah was named in England's latest squad. "Last season I think everybody saw what a talent he is. Then this season started with him starting and I changed him as we all know against Ipswich. Ibou [Konate] and Virgil were and are such a strong combination that he didn't play a lot.

"But every time he had to play, except for maybe the first one or two games, but afterwards he had to play you could see that maybe he is no longer a talent because as a talent you don't have any setbacks, but the moment you get setbacks it's about you and how you react.

"I think he showed in his recent performances that he's outgrown being called a talent. That's probably what Thomas Tuchel saw and sees as well by giving him a call-up. He did really well the last few times he had to play for us and even in a position he's not completely used to as a right full-back. But in my opinion, he has also the qualities to play in that position.

"He's strong, he's fast, he's very comfortable with the ball and it gives us an extra quality if we play him, which we saw [against Paris Saint-Germain], in terms of set-pieces because he was the one that was this far away from us qualifying for the next round by heading the ball onto the post, because that one was not offside.

"He showed mentality and that he had quality. That's already what we knew when we saw him playing last season."
