Injury expert casts a doubt on Tottenham star’s availability vs Chelsea

Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski has missed the last five games due to a foot injury

Tottenham Hotspur’s season has been underwhelming, to say the least, but Dejan Kulusevski has been their standout performer. He has been among the rare bright sparks under Ange Postecoglou, featuring in over 40 games already.

The Sweden international has racked up 10 goals and as many assists, improving his output for which he has often been criticised by the fans. However, he picked up a foot injury earlier this month and has subsequently missed the last five games for Spurs.

Before the Europa League second leg of the last-16 tie against AZ Alkmaar, Ange Postecoglou said Dejan Kulusevski will be back after the international break. He remains in a race to be fit for next week’s London derby against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge—the Lilywhites’ first game after the international break.

Now, Dr Rajpal Brar—a doctor in physiotherapy and a sports scientist—dropped the latest update on Kulusevski’s injury. Discussing the state of play with the Spurs star, the injury expert thinks the Swede is likely to miss the away game against Chelsea on April 3.

“An ankle getting sore is a natural part of playing through knocks, especially when on the feet and how the demands of football are on the feet,” Dr Rajpal Brar exclusively told Tottenham News.

“If he does return after the break, I would expect him to be in first team training next week.

“But there is a chance that he’s not going to be available for the next one as he’s not yet returned to full training.”

Kulusevski has been a vital player for Ange’s side, and his absence in the last few games has been sorely missed. While Tottenham managed to overcome AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League round of 16, they drew with Bournemouth and lost to Fulham without him before the international break.

Ange Postecoglou would want to have Dejan Kulusevski back from injury as quickly as possible.

So, it is extremely important that the Stockholm-born talent heals completely before returning to action. At this crucial juncture of the campaign, Ange simply cannot afford any more injury setbacks or fresh injury issues. The 24-year-old is a player Spurs will rely on if they are to win the Europa League trophy.

This foot injury was perhaps inevitable given the sheer number of minutes Kulusevski has clocked this season. As per Dr Brar, he is yet to return to team training, which makes him unlikely to be fit to feature for next week’s big London derby against Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea.

This brief period on the sidelines has given the Sweden skipper a small period to recharge his batteries. Hopefully, he returns from injury fitter and stronger in April.
