Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has admitted he’d be “amazed” if Trent Alexander-Arnold hasn’t already sorted out his future.
It has been widely reported by BBC Sport and others that Liverpool right-back Alexander-Arnold looks to be at an advanced stage in his talks with Real Madrid.
With Alexander-Arnold due to be out of contract this summer, it has seemed inevitable for a while now that he could really be about to leave his boyhood club at the end of this season.
Although it’s not quite a done deal yet, it seems to be heading in that direction, and Keane admits he’s surprised a top player like the England international hasn’t sorted out his future yet.
Speaking on The Overlap, the pundit seemed to suggest these reports might not be entirely accurate, with Gary Neville agreeing that it could be that this story is being drip-fed to Liverpool fans in stages to get them used to the idea of the deal going through.

“I’m amazed that players like Trent, these top players, haven’t already agreed with a club,” Keane said.
“Do you reckon it’s all done and already signed?”
Neville then responded by saying: “This feels like the first step to sort of get Liverpool fans used to the fact that he’s probably going to leave.”
Keane and Neville played at the highest level for many years, so they’ll perhaps have a better idea of how these things work than a lot of the reporters writing about it at the moment.

While these deals could in theory take a long time to sort out, it has seemed quite consistently for a while now like there’s been no progress on Alexander-Arnold signing a new contract at Liverpool.
That could only really mean one thing, as everyone knew he’d be out of contract this summer and sure to attract interest due to his quality and reputation in the game.
