Harry Kane has been tipped to make a stunning return to the Premier League with Liverpool as the Bayern Munich star continues to be linked with a move back to his homeland. The England captain left Tottenham in the summer of 2023 in a £86million deal plus add-ons and has been prolific for the Bundesliga giants, scoring 76 goals in 82 appearances. But Premier League icon Alan Shearer believes Liverpool could be tempted to move for the 31-year-old, hailing him as a 'great option' for Arne Slot's side.
“Liverpool will be looking for a centre-forward in the summer, I don't doubt that and Harry Kane would be a great option for them because of the size of the club and he'll score goals. Whether Harry decides to stay in Germany or he decides to come back to the Premier League, he'll have options,” Shearer told Betfair. “I've always said that if he comes back to the Premier League then he'll have a really, really good chance of breaking my record. I'm a huge admirer of him and you can't be anything but because of who and what he is.”
Kane, who scored in both of the Three Lions' victories over Albania and Latvia during the international period, could prove to be the goalscorer Slot has been missing this season. While Mohamed Salah has spearheaded their campaign with an incredible contribution of 27 goals and 17 assists, their £85m man Darwin Nunez has struggled to perform consistently this season.
The Uruguayan has been used intermittently by Slot this season and the Dutch boss could be ready to cash in on the striker, 25, if Kane is available. He has already found the net 32 times this season for his club, while Nunez has just seven in 40 outings. Nunez was the subject of a rejected bid from a Saudi Pro League club in January, as well as courting reported interest from Atletico Madrid.
With 213 Premier League goals to his name and a three-time Golden Boot winner, Kane may have unfinished business in the top flight if he wants to become the Premier League's all-time top goalscorer. He has 47 to go to match Shearer's record and the former Newcastle finisher, 54, is confident he would pick up where he left off if he completes a move back to the Premier League.
“Kane is a machine and he'll always score goals. Despite his age, if you provide him with chances or balls into the box, he'll find a way to put the ball in the back of the net and that's the sign of a great goalscorer," he added. "Harry has always done it for England. I know there's been one or two debates about last summer but if he's got players who are prepared to run beyond him then that opens up space for him and if you get to the byline like Declan Rice did and whip a ball across like that, he'll score goals. He's a great goalscorer and has been for so many years now.”
Addressing his record, Shearer said: “My Premier League record won't last forever. I don't know how long I've been at the top of the charts but it's been a great privilege to be there when you look at the number of top quality players there.
“The record will go one day and when it does go, and if it's to Harry, he knows I'd be the first to congratulate him and shake his hand because if anyone deserves it, he does. At the moment, I'm still enjoying it so long may it continue!"
