Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil has emerged on the radar of Roma, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke on X.
Sunderland could face a battle to keep of the player this summer. SAFC are currently eyeing promotion to the Premier League from the Championship and are sat in the play-offs with Burnley, Coventry City and West Brom.

Neil, 23, is under contract at the Stadium of Light until June 2026. He has made 38 appearances in all competitions so far this season and has chipped in with two goals and three assists.
In this latest update regarding reporter O’Rourke on X, Roma have joined West Ham in pursuit of the Black Cats’ skipper ahead of the next transfer window. They are said to have been alerted to him whilst keeping tabs on Enzo Le Fee’s progress in the North East.
Regis Le Bris’ side are positioned in 4th place in the table. They lost 3-0 away at Coventry City last time out before the international break.

Sunderland risk losing Neil for free next year if they don’t cash in on him in the meantime.
It remains to be seen whether he will put pen-to-paper on an extension with them.

His future may well depend on what league the Black Cats find themselves in next term.
After penning his last deal in 2023, he said at the time, as per BBC Sport: “All my family are Sunderland fans, so I have immense pride playing for the club. I always said I wanted to try and help this club get back to where it belongs and signing this contract will give me an opportunity to help do that.”
Neil has risen up through the academy ranks at Sunderland and was a regular for them at various different youth levels.

He made his first-team debut back in November 2018 in the EFL Trophy and has since become one of their most prized assets.
The South Shields-born man helped the Black Cats gain promotion from League One under Tony Mowbray in 2021.
Neil has since adapted well to life in the second tier and has played 187 matches for his current club altogether, finding the net on 12 occasions.

Time will tell whether Roma end up lodging an offer approach.

They would be able to offer Neil the chance to play abroad for the first time and experience life in Serie A.
