‘My understanding…’Fabrizio Romano gives latest Marcus Rashford update,‘attitude’point stressed

Manchester United are working with a lot of unknowns heading into the summer transfer window and a big one among them is Marcus Rashford.

Aston Villa have a buy clause for Marcus Rashford of about £40 million and while Rashford has been doing well at Villa, that’s no small fee.

Villa’s struggles with Financial Fair Play are well known and a package that could easily go into the £60 million range combined with the player’s wages is quite substantial.

Fabrizio Romano has now given an update on the latest happening with Rashford and Villa while stressing a key point about the player’s attitude.

Marcus Rashford Aston Villa update

While Rashford’s buy option in loan deal can be classed as disappointing considering what PSG were ready to splurge on him two seasons ago, it can still be transformative at Old Trafford.

Due to his status as an academy product, £40 million of pure profit will translate to a transfer kitty of about £200 million after factoring in amortisation over five years.

Add to that Rashford exiting the club in silently scorched earth circumstances, and it becomes easy to see why United will be desperate for Villa to trigger that buy option.

Rashford has done his part in convincing Villa to do so but Romano has stressed that United will be made to wait, with an update on the player’s attitude as well.

He said: “My understanding is that Aston Villa is very happy with Marcus Rashford. Aston Villa are not deciding anything now. End of the season, when they understand about UCL, they willl assess FFP topic, and then they will communicate their decision.

“Villa is very happy with the player’s attitude, technical point of view, now they have to decide if they are able to pay for the player.”

Manchester United negotiate Rashford transfer from strength

Just like in Antony’s case, United suddenly hold the cards while negotiating for Rashford’s transfer because the chances are they might have to.

Villa are already making noises about whether they are “able to pay” for a player who Unai Emery is clearly a big fan of.

The chances are that Villa send Rashford back to United to end the loan deal and they try to negotiate a lower fee to buy him permanently.

United hold the cards in that case and can initiate a bidding war, now from a position of strength because they will no longer be selling a player in the January window who’s been completely exiled.

They’ll sell a proven commodity who’s rehabbed his value and will generate plenty more interest.

Villa need to be careful because £40 million is probably the least fee they’ll have to pay to get Rashford.
