Parents are urged to destroy a children's toy amid reports that it can cause infants to die or become seriously injured by suffocation.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall of the Welspo-branded foldable play yard.

The product violates a series of federal safety regulations, including mattress displacement, and is reportedly missing required warnings and labels.

The play yard is made of mesh panels with red, blue, yellow and teal borders. Each panel features a cartoon lion, monkey, elephant or sun.

It also includes a mattress that bares the same motifs, as well as a carrying bag.

CPSC officials urge parents to 'stop using and destroy all Welspo-branded play yards immediately'.

'To destroy the product, first disassemble the fabric cover from the frame,' the recall notice states. 'Cut up the play yard cover and mattress pad, and then dispose of the pieces in the trash or recycling.'

The play yards, which were manufactured in China, were sold online at Walmart and Amazon for $90 from December 2023 through March last year.
