Newcastle United are preparing a move for Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah ahead of the summer transfer window, according to a report by The Times’ Martin Hardy.
Quansah, 22, has emerged as a serious option as the club targets a right-sided center-back following their Carabao Cup triumph. The Liverpool academy graduate played the full 90 minutes in the final at Wembley, but his Premier League minutes have been limited, which Newcastle hope could aid their pursuit.
According to the report, Newcastle are “hopeful of persuading him to make the switch to St. James’ Park with the promise of regular first-team football.” Hardy adds that the club is “preparing an offer worth £30 million” with potential add-ons, although Liverpool “have a higher valuation” of the player, a stance made clear during negotiations last summer.
Quansah has made 22 appearances across all competitions this season and has also featured at right-back in the absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Bradley.
Newcastle see the centre-back position as a priority area for reinforcement, and Quansah is said to have “significant support among senior figures within St James’ Park,” according to Hardy.
