The Miami Dolphins are taking the 2025 NFL Draft process seriously after a mild free agency where they didn't address all of their position needs.
While the Dolphins believe they have found their franchise quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa, that feeling could change at any moment. Tagovailoa has been great when healthy, but one of his biggest problems is durability and the ability to remain healthy.
Since the 2020 season, the Dolphins have an overall record of 38-24 with Tagovailoa as the starting quarterback. Miami is 9-13 without him as the starter, including the 4-3 record with Ryan Fitzpatrick as the bridge quarterback in 2020.
The Dolphins need a reliable backup and potential long-term quarterback if Tagovailoa suffers another serious injury. Recent free-agent acquisition Zach Wilson is too much of a question mark, which is why the Dolphins are evaluating quarterbacks to potentially draft next month.
On Tuesday, Louisville hosted its Pro Day with quarterback Tyler Shough as one of the main participants. Dolphins assistant general manager Marvin Allen was at the Pro Day evaluating Shough. It isn't clear if there was an interview conducted between the two.
Shough is a likely day two quarterback as a late second or third round selection next month. There have been talks of him potentially being a first round pick based on the weak position class the 2025 draft has.

Shough had a breakout performance in his first and only season at Louisville this past season. He completed 244-of-398 of his passes for 3,195 yards, 23 touchdowns, and only six interceptions. He spent the previous three seasons at Texas Tech after spending the first three years of his career at Oregon.
Shough's experience and productivity are going to be key attributes that teams like the Dolphins will be drawn to. If the Dolphins are considering a day-two quarterback, there must be internal concerns about Tagovailoa's long-term health.
