Premier League defender named as director on Euro 2028 delivery company

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has been named on the board of UK & Ireland 2028, the company responsible for the local delivery of Euro 2028.

Mings was a member of the England squad at Euro 2020. He has been capped 18 times by his country and has made 16 appearances for Villa in all competitions so far this season.

The 32-year-old has a number of business interests, including an interior design company that he co-founded as a 22-year-old.

He has been joined on the board by Irish barrister Susan Ahern, who specialises in arbitration, regulation and sports law.

Ahern, Mings and former Tesco and Marks & Spencer chief financial officer Alan Stewart are the three independent non-executive directors of the delivery company.

The company, tasked with organising the tournament in line with the UEFA hosting agreement, will be chaired by Debbie Hewitt, Chair of the English Football Association.

She was previously the chair of the successful joint UK and Ireland bid for Euro 2028.

Chris Bryant, head of the Euro 2028 bid, will serve as managing director on the board, which will also comprise the chief executive officers of the host football associations.

The inaugural board meeting will take place on 28 March at the National Stadium of Wales, in Cardiff.

The delivery company will work closely with each government to deliver in areas such as hosting, mobility and airport operations, host city relations, and stadium liaison.

The four host associations - including the FAI - are still waiting to hear from UEFA the number of automatic qualification spots that will be made available for the tournament.
