The North London club explored a possible bargain deal for the German defender during the January transfer window, but a move didn’t come to fruition. The club’s interest in the Bayer Leverkusen centre-back hasn’t faded, and they will try to sign him on a potential free transfer in the summer.
But they are not the only club vying for his signature. According to a report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo (h/t Sport Witness), Liverpool are also keen on Jonathan Tah.
Tah is set to leave Xabi Alonso’s side when his contract with them expires at the end of June. Bayer Leverkusen have made several attempts to renew his contract, but the German centre-back wants to take on a new challenge.

Ange Postecoglou would love to have a defender like Jonathan Tah in his squad
The aforementioned report (h/t Sport Witness) adds that the 29-year-old has set his sights on joining Barcelona. Hansi Flick previously managed him for the national team and is keen on adding the Bayer ace to his defensive roster ahead of the 2025/26 season. However, Barcelona have to make room in their squad before signing Tah.
As for Tottenham, Ange Postecoglou requires a leader and a reliable presence at the back after witnessing an injury-ravaged season. Tah fits that category perfectly, though, Barcelona and Liverpool being in the mix for his signature is bad news for Spurs.
