Kylian Mbappe makes major£208m transfer decision ahead of Arsenal Champions League meeting

Kylian Mbappe was the talk of the summer transfer window last year. The Frenchman completed a free transfer move to Real Madrid at the conclusion of his Paris Saint-Germain contract.

There was plenty of talk around whether he would stay in Paris or move on to the Spanish capital, with Los Blancos tracking the striker for some time.

Eventually he made the move to sign for the Champions League winners, signing a five-year contract.

And after a slow start to life in the capital, he has scored 14 goals in his last 15 La Liga games to remind everyone he is one of the best players in world football.

He has seven goals in his 12 Champions League matches and next on his hit list in Europe's premier competition are Arsenal. The Gunners have been linked with Mbappe in the past and even tried to sign him.

Arsene Wenger admitted: "It was a footballing blow, and an obvious one too. Seeing a photo [of Mbappe wearing an Arsenal shirt], hurts my heart a little

"I went to his parents and tried to convince them. At the time, he was a little shy, people were starting to ask him for his first autographs in Monaco. At the beginning of your career, you don't have too much pressure at the start and they managed to persuade him to extend it by promising him that he would play more easily at Monaco than at Arsenal, Liverpool or Real Madrid. We can say that his parents advised him well and that he made the right decision."

Mbappe himself said: "I met with Arsene Wenger who is a great coach. He has a great reputation here in France, he's well-respected and knows how to develop young players. This was a real option for me.

"I dream of being managed by Arsene Wenger. He is French, he's had a great career and now he is free because he has left Arsenal.

"We weighed up the advantages and disadvantages of all the clubs but my family told me it had to be my decision and one I needed to make.

"It also had to be a long-term decision. So it was up to me and I decided to come here in order to develop."

Mbappe's decision to leave PSG to move to Real Madrid was a huge one and l'Equipe have revealed just what the 26-year-old turned down.

He will be earning a fortune at the Santiago Bernabeu, but it has been revealed that he would have earned an annual salary of £208million at the Parc des Princes, including bonuses and image rights.

That's a huge figure to turn down, but he's certainly not wanting for money in the Spanish capital now.
