This strong-armed quarterback could be surprise first-round pick for Pittsburgh Steelers

Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough is the one quarterback the Pittsburgh Steelers have brought to the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex for a visit. Once thought to be a day three pick, Shough is now firmly a day two pick, and someone that teams seem interested in as early as the second round.

However, NFL Draft insider Tony Pauline of SportsKeeda says some teams believe Shough coudl sneak into the first round, and the Steelers could be the team that takes him.

“Some believe he could end up in Round 1, an opinion I do not share, with the Pittsburgh Steelers or Seattle Seahawks whispered around league circles as interested. Everyone I’ve spoken to says keep an eye on the Browns, New York Giants, and Las Vegas Raiders at the top of Round 2,” Pauline wrote.

There are a few things holding Shough back from the top of his stock. For one, he played seven years of college football, and this last season was the first season he played more than seven games in. The injury bug has been a real thing for him.

Second, Shough will turn 26 in the middle of his rookie season in September. He is undoubtedly an older rookie and that could scare some teams away.

The Athletic’s Dane Brugler praised Shough’s tools and ranked him as the fourth quarterback in this class, with Ole Miss’s Jaxson Dart coming in before him. However, Brugler noted that Shough was a fast-risiing candidate and ‘a dark horse’ to be the third guy off the board.
