Chelsea have been blessed with some truly elite goalkeepers over the years, but Petr Cech sits top of the pile for what he achieved at the club.
Petr Cech, who’s now retired, enjoyed a remarkable 11-year spell at Chelsea between 2004 and 2015.
The Czech Republic star is widely regarded as one of the best keepers of his generation, enjoying gigantic success during his time at Stamford Bridge.

It’s no real surprise that Chelsea’s greatest ever team, voted for by the fanbase during March’s international break, included Cech as the starting goalkeeper.

John Terry remembers no Chelsea player could beat Petr Cech in training
John Terry, who’s another Chelsea legend from the past, spent the majority of his club career playing just in front of Cech at centre-back.
During an interview with The Athletic this week, the former Blues captain recalled what Cech was like in training when he first joined the club. Apparently, the rest of the team couldn’t get past him on the training pitches.
Terry said: “Cech was a big part of that. When he joined (from French side Rennes for £7million in that summer of 2004) the lads couldn’t beat him in training, it was pretty impressive the way he was performing daily during sessions.

“It gave us a great foundation. He was very dominant in the air, plus he was comfortable with the ball at his feet.”
The prime version of Cech was unlike anything we’ve seen before. Even after his horrible head injury in 2006, he still came back and achieved so much in Chelsea colours, including winning the Champions League in 2012.
It sounds like the world-class gloveman was equally as committed in training as to when he was playing in games.
According to John Obi Mikel, Cech was once furious with Florent Malouda during a training session because of his levels.

The current goalkeeper problem at Chelsea
Unlike during Cech’s spell at Chelsea, the goalkeeper spot is currently a major weakness in the Blues XI.
Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen have been battling it out for the starting position this term, but we’ve not been inspired by either shot-stopper.

Chelsea are eyeing AC Milan’s Mike Maignan as a potential summer transfer target. Without a doubt, we think the 29-year-old French goalkeeper would be a significant upgrade for the Blues XI.
If Chelsea want to get back to winning silverware again, they need to fix the keeper problem.
