The 'crucial' Wolves star who has just been nominated for the Premier League Player of the…

Once the 2024/25 campaign ends, March could be remembered as the month that Wolves dragged themselves away from the threat of relegation, surprisingly without the help of Matheus Cunha.

Cunha was sent off against Bournemouth in the FA Cup on March 1st and is currently serving the final two games of his four match ban.

But in the absence of their talisman, who has scored 15 goals in all competitions this term, Wolves have been able to produce some crucial results.

Wolves drew 1-1 against Everton thanks to Marshall Munetsi’s first goal and then a Jorgen Strand Larsen brace at St Marys saw them clinch an invaluable three points over Southampton.

The above two results pulled Vitor Pereira’s men nine points clear of the bottom three as one player in particular starred without Cunha.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month

It’s been a mostly rocky time for Jean-Ricner Bellegarde since joining the club in 2023, experiencing problems with consistent minutes.

But finally, in the past two months, the Frenchman has come of age in a Wolves shirt, delivering performances that warrant his £12.8 million price tag.

Bellegarde grabbed an assist in the draw at home to Everton before laying two on a plate for Stand Larsen against Southampton.

Ian Wright has praised Bellegarde for stepping up in the absence of Cunha, and his contributions have now been recognised on a wider scale.

After an excellent March, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde has been nominated for @premierleague Player of the Month.

On Thursday, it was revealed that the 26-year-old has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for March alongside Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Brighton’s Jean Paul van Hecke and Nottingham Forest duo Nikola Milenkovic and Anthony Elanga.

It’s the first time since moving to Molineux that Bellegarde has been shortlisted for this award, and hopefully, he can beat the likes of Fernandes and Rice to claim it.

Alan Shearer was blown away by Bellegarde after Southampton

Bellegarde won the Wolves Player of the Month award for February, since continuing that form into March and hopefully beyond.

Arguably his best moment of the campaign however, came in the 2-1 win against Saints, as the midfielders sumptuous cross found the head of Strand Larsen.

The Norwegian has often been starved of quality service this term but Bellegarde proved he has the quality to deliver.

As such, Alan Shearer labelled Bellegarde as ‘crucial’, with the Wolves star featuring in his Premier League Team of the Week.

“What a performance and what a big win for Wolves. He has been transformed since Vitor Pereira took charge – two crucial assists is testament to that,” Shearer wrote.

Wolves return from the international break with a home clash against West Ham on Tuesday, April 1st, and Bellegarde will look to continue his incredible run of form.
