£33m target would be Man United's fastest player, he's even faster than Alejandro Garnacho

Manchester United have been linked to one of the fastest footballers in Europe ahead of the summer transfer window.

Since being appointed as Manchester United head coach, Ruben Amorim wants more physicality in his side after being wowed by the intensity of the Premier League.

Amorim wants United to run like ‘mad dogs’ and in January it was clear that the Portuguese coach was after a physical wing-back capable of handling the Premier League.

United ended up signing Patrick Dorgu for £25m and he has made a bright start in England. Before he arrived, Dorgu was described as a “machine” due to his athleticism – that is exactly the kind of player that Ineos and Amorim want to sign.

How fast is Man United target Jeremie Frimpong?

Dorgu’s arrival solved Amorim’s problems at left wing-back, and United are expected to dip into the market this summer for a similar kind of player on the right.

United missed out on Geovany Quenda with the Sporting star set to sign for Chelsea instead. However, United remain in contact with Jeremie Frimpong over a potential move.

Frimpong suits Amorim’s system and the Bayer Leverkusen wing-back has been a long-term target for United.

If the Red Devils are able to get a deal over the line for the 24-year-old, he would immediately become the fastest player in Amorim’s squad.

Jeremie Frimpong 36.02 km/h

Alejandro Garnacho 35.48 km/h

Rasmus Hojlund (*2023) 35.45 km/h

Marcus Rashford 35.35 km/h

According to Jeremie Frimpong’s Bundesliga profile, his top speed this season has been clocked at 36.02 km/h.

Earlier this season, it was reported that Alejandro Garnacho is United’s quickest player with a top speed of 35.48 km/h. Marcus Rashford followed closely behind with a top speed of 35.35 km/h.

In 2023, Hojlund clocked in at 35.45 km/h, putting him into the mix as one of United’s fastest players, but it still pales in comparison to Frimpong.

Man United can sign Jeremie Frimpong for £33m this summer

United have been interested in Frimpong for over a year but chose not to pursue a deal for him in the summer.

It is understood that Frimpong had a £33m release clause in his contract, and according to Sky Germany that clause is still active until 2028.

The budget at Old Trafford might be tight this summer given that United have already spent £89m on transfers, but Ineos have promised Amorim he will be backed.

Diogo Dalot is set to stay and Amad Diallo could play as wing-back, but ideally Amorim will want a new signing to arrive in the summer.

Frimpong is well-suited to Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system and has the athleticism and intensity that he is looking for in new signings.
