Where BBC Sport ranked Celtic in top 10 British clubs, Manchester United and Liverpool top two

There is no doubt that Celtic are Scotland’s biggest and most successful club.

Celtic’s 119 trophies – the most of any team in Scotland – is proof of that, as a few more trophies should be heading the Hoops’ way before the 2024/25 season is out.

But if you go down south, then there is perhaps a fiercer argument to be made as to who is the biggest club in England.

Liverpool are heading towards their 20th top division crown, and when that’s secured, they will go level with the now-suffering Manchester United.

Many will agree that those two are the two top dogs in England, it’s just a case of who you view as the biggest, from trophies, fanbase size, revenue and anything else you like to throw into the mix.

But, if you wanted to look at the overall picture and who is the biggest club in Britain as a whole, where would Celtic rank?

BBC Sport have offered their insight, and it might cause a stir, in fact, it will cause a stir, especially amongst the Celtic Park faithful.

Celtic ranked fifth in BBC Sport’s biggest club in Britain, with Manchester United top and Liverpool second

One of the biggest problems with the modern game is manufactured big clubs, and it’s fair to say that England has its fair share.

MORE CELTIC STORIES

Manchester City and Chelsea are two prime examples. Before the huge investment into their clubs, they were nowhere near the powerhouses they are today, but somehow, one of them ranked higher than Celtic in club size, according to BBC Sport.

Those from the Etihad, who were deemed the fourth biggest club in Britain, were ranked higher than Celtic, as three other sides were also above the 1967 European Cup winners.

Celtic’s push for a Treble – and demand for more respect

John Hartson recently stated that Celtic needs more respect put on their name for how they have utterly dominated in Scotland for over a decade now.

One of the best trophy wins of them all was Celtic’s League Cup final win over Rangers at Hampden in December – and that penalty drama after the 3-3 thriller.

That put the first trophy of the season on the table, and now Brendan Rodgers will be looking to wrap up the Premiership title.

And, along the way, the focus will be on winning the Scottish Cup, with St Johnstone, Aberdeen and Hearts standing in the Treble-chasers’ way.
