Arsenal have been urged to make an audacious move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic as they look to replace Edu in their hierarchy. Ex-Gunner Anders Limpar, who won the old Division One title with the club in the 1990s, wants to see the north Londoners go after the Swedish icon.

Ibrahimovic was renowned for his winning mentality throughout a playing career that saw him play for a number of Europe's heavyweights. He spent some time in England with Manchester United but has now taken up an advisory role under the direction of AC Milan's new American owners.

Arsenal were dealt the shock news that Edu was leaving earlier this season with the Brazilian believed to be heading off to lead the multi-club model that is owned by Evangelos Marinakis, who has Nottingham Forest among his assets.

Edu was crucial in helping Arsenal's rise in recent years and worked impressively with Mikel Arteta as the club's recruitment helped turn them into Premier League title challengers once more. Mirror Football understands that Andrea Berta is set to be named as his replacement, following the Italian's departure from Atletico Madrid.

Limpar though believes Ibrahimovic would be a fantastic capture as he underlined his compatriot's relentless desire to achieve success.

He told SveaCasino: "When it comes to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, he is a God. I would love to see him replace Edu at Arsenal, it would be a dream come true. First of all, he is an absolute winner. He would never stop until he has won. I would be the first one to support him working behind the scenes at Arsenal, he could take them to the next level."

Milan currently sit midtable in Serie A as they endure a difficult season that recently saw them knocked out of the Champions League by Feyenoord. Ibrahimovic though has shown absolutely no desire to leave the San Siro nor has he been mentioned as a target.

The Swede previously underlined his desire to make the Milan side a force once more. Ibrahimovic also highlighted how he and the club's owners were aligned in their vision for the Italian giants.

He told UEFA: "I believe in the project, I believe in what Milan stands for, I believe I share the same vision as the people working and the ownership because they want to [do] amazing things. They're aiming to make history, winning, and when it comes to winning, that is where I feel I am alive because I want to win, I'll do anything to win, and I don't give up until I win."
