**The Premier League have announced a significant change to the upcoming summer transfer window**.
The window is set to open earlier than usual, starting on Sunday 1 June and lasting until Tuesday 10 June.
There will then be a short break in the window before re-opening on Monday 16 June and running until Monday 1 September.
This is because of what the Premier League calls “an exceptional registration period” due to the Club World Cup in the USA.
Both Manchester City and Chelsea will take part in the new tournament which will start on 15 June.
There are also a host of other European sides taking part including PSG, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Porto, Benfica and Borussia Dortmund, as well as clubs from across other parts of the world.
Last summer’s transfer window opened at the later date of 14 June and ended on 30 August.
The changes could provide a boost for Real Madrid an[d their hopes of signing Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold](https://hayters.com/trent-alexander-arnold-moving-closer-to-real-madrid-move-reports/) in time for the start of the tournament.
His contract does not officially expire until the end of June but Madrid are reportedly hoping to tie up a deal before that.
Chelsea and Manchester City could also look to strengthen their squads before the tournament gets underway.
City boss Pep Guardiola [recently admitted he would use the tournament as an opportunity for his players to rest](https://hayters.com/pep-guardiola-says-he-plans-to-use-club-world-cup-to-let-man-city-players-recover/) too, however.
“We are going to try to enjoy that experience. After 11 months, I don’t think about bringing the players there, 24 hours in the room thinking about the next game,” he said.
“We are going to train but I will let them free. Of course they have to behave well otherwise they will be in trouble but they have to have fun and play the games as best as possible for this new experience.”
It comes after FIFA revealed that clubs could win up to £97m in prize money at the tournament.
The overall prize fund totals £775m with £407m divided between all participating clubs and £368m awarded on a performance-related basis.
