Travel advice issued ahead of Newcastle United's trophy parade on Saturday

Newcastle United's Carabao Cup trophy celebration event will be held on Newcastle's Town Moor from 2pm to 8pm, with an open-top bus parade starting at 4.30pm from St James' Park.

The parade will travel down Gallowgate and along Percy Street, finishing at the Town Moor via Barras Bridge.

The city centre and surrounding areas are expected to be extremely busy, with hundreds of thousands of people anticipated to attend the celebrations.

Anyone travelling into or out of Newcastle on Saturday for work, leisure, or to attend the event is advised to plan their journeys in advance and expect queues and disruption.

The event is expected to impact the entire Metro and bus networks, and services are unlikely to adhere to timetables.

Customers are urged to plan ahead, allow plenty of travel time, and expect queues.

Additional staffing and queuing management measures will be in place at key Metro stations.

Ilford Road and West Jesmond Metro stations will be exit-only from 3pm on Saturday to help manage the crowds.

Some other Metro station closures in Newcastle city centre may also be required on the day.

The bus network is also expected to be extremely busy, with queues and delays anticipated across the network.

Most bus routes will be diverted due to road closures in and around Newcastle city centre, meaning buses may not be able to stop at their usual locations or access the city centre at all.

Eldon Square Bus Station and Haymarket Bus Station will be temporarily closed from approximately 4pm while Percy Street is closed for the bus parade.

As usual, bus services will begin to run a reduced service from 8pm.

Road closures will be in effect for the Town Moor event and parade route.

These include sections of Great North Road, Barras Bridge, Claremont Road, Barrack Road, Gallowgate, St James Boulevard, Percy Street, Blackett Street, New Bridge Street West, and St Mary's Place.

The whole parade route will be closed from 4pm and will reopen in sections once the parade and all followers have passed and it is safe to do so.

In addition to the road closures, a number of parking suspensions will be in place on the affected streets.
