BREAKING: Premier League confirm massive change to upcoming summer transfer window

Premier League clubs voted for the change on Thursday morning.

Premier League clubs have voted in favour of breaking the summer transfer window into two sections this summer in a major change - but it will remain open until after next season begins despite suggestions of an earlier deadline.

The transfer window will open on Sunday 1 June to Tuesday 10 June, due to an exceptional registration period relating to the FIFA Club World Cup. It will then reopen on Monday 16 June and close on Monday 1 September in line with other European leagues.

The earlier window will allow Chelsea and Manchester City to register new players in time for the Club World Cup, which gets underway in the United States on June 14.

Earlier this week it was reported that some clubs were keen on moving the deadline forward to before the new season begins on August 14 but it will continue to the beginning of September. That suggestion came because several heads of recruitment were eager to have squads completed before games get underway.

However that idea was complicated by the fact that the majority of European leagues, plus the big spending Saudi Pro League, would stick with September deadlines.

The decisions were made at a Premier League shareholders' meeting on Thursday morning. As ever, a minimum of 14 clubs must vote in favour of any rule change.

A brief statement said: "Premier League clubs have today agreed the dates for the Summer 2025 Transfer Window.

"The window will open early, between Sunday 1 June and Tuesday 10 June, due to an exceptional registration period relating to the FIFA Club World Cup. It will then reopen on Monday 16 June and close on Monday 1 September."
