Victor Lindelof issues plea to Ruben Amorim, Man Utd defender faces uncertain future ahead of summer transfer window

Victor Lindelof is likely to leave Manchester United this summer.

It has been a difficult season for everyone at Manchester United, although Victor Lindelof revealed recently that he is “very comfortable” at Old Trafford ahead of talks that will decide his future.

United are 13th in the Premier League table but Ruben Amorim can still salvage the season by going all the way in the Europa League. Although it’s Europe’s second-rate competition, it is the only route United have to qualify for the Champions League.

Lindelof, who is out of contract in the summer, will be hoping to play a pivotal role in that because United have several defenders out injured.

United fans won’t see Lisandro Martinez again this season due to a serious knee injury, while Amorim’s injury list contains a total of six defenders.

However, Lindelof has had to battle injuries of his own after having four spells out with knocks since 2023, missing 37 games for United and Sweden combined.

Lindelof’s most recent spell on the sidelines ended in January this year and he is now back in contention for selection.

Victor Lindelof wants more minutes

After an international break that saw Victor Lindelof complete his first 90 minutes for Sweden in 12 months, as he captained his country to a 5-1 win over Northern Ireland, the United defender is targeting more minutes.

It has been a stop-start season for the Swede but the 30-year-old is adamant that the only way he can get back to his best is by playing regular football.

“It’s been a while,” Lindelof said post-match. “It’s nice to play 90 minutes. I need minutes.

“We play with very high intensity in the national team, so it’s fun to hold for 90 minutes.

“It’s a tough and demanding way to play football. But we have to do that, too. It still felt like we solved it well, but it’s a little different sometimes to be so high up.”

The jury is out whether that is still achievable at United, with Ineos planning to rebuild the squad with Amorim as head coach.

Busy summer ahead for Lindelof

Victor Lindelof is set to see his contract expire at the end of the season, which means he could face a busy summer searching for a new club.

A return to Benfica has been touted for Lindelof but no decision has been made yet.

Lindelof slipped further down the pecking order at United in January when Ayden Heaven, 18, joined from Arsenal in a £1.5 million deal. Prior to that, he was already behind a list of defenders including Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Martinez.
