Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will expect to see his side cut Liverpool’s lead at the top of the Premier League to nine points when they face Fulham in early April.
The Gunners are one of a number of top flight sides benefitting from an extended rest period, with the international break followed by the FA Cup quarter-finals taking place this weekend.
Arteta’s side defeated Chelsea 1-0 in their last outing to cut Liverpool’s advantage the top of the table to 12 points and, with the North London side playing before the Reds return to action, that deficit could be single figures very soon.
In the meantime, it has emerged that Arsenal are considering a move for a Bundesliga striker.
According to TBR Football, the Gunners have held preliminary talks about a possible move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.
The 22-year-old striker has impressed so far this season, netting 19 times in 38 games across all competitions, and the report claims that his displays have attracted the interest of the Gunners.
Gabriel Jesus has struggled with injuries this season
It is claimed that the Premier League side have asked to be kept informed about any developments in regard to the player’s situation, with a view to potentially moving for the striker in the near future.
Fellow English sides Liverpool, Newcastle United and Aston Villa have all also asked to be kept up to date about the striker’s situation, the report claims.
Ekitike joined Frankfurt from French giants Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024, following a loan spell with the German side.
He has registered a combined 33 goals and assists in 54 matches for his current side, who may face a battle to keep hold of the player beyond this summer.
Ekitike is under contract with Frankfurt until the summer of 2029, having signed a long-term deal with the club when he joined ahead of the current campaign.
