Thousands of Newcastle United supporters are set to line the streets as they welcome Eddie Howe’s Carabao Cup heroes home.

A black-and-white party 70 years in the making is set to sweep over the city this weekend. Newcastle United players will be given a heroes welcome when they showcase the Carabao Cup trophy to thousands of jubilant supporters.

The Magpies beat Liverpool at Wembley earlier this month to clinch domestic silverware for the first time since 1955. A football-fanatic region will now serenade their superstars through Newcastle city centre in a showpiece event.

Eddie Howe’s side are also set to attend the Town Moor to continue the party - with over 100,000 fans registering interest. Criticisms about the event led to the club working alongside local authorities to plan a double-header which included the bus parade.

Here is everything you need to know ahead of what is guaranteed to be a historic day for Newcastle fans. Let us hope we do not need to wait 70 years until the next one…

What time will Newcastle’s parade take place?

The bus is set to leave St James’ Park at around 4pm, with a two-hour timeline given before arriving at the Town Moor for 6pm. In normal circumstances, this journey would take six minutes but a slow-paced crawl through the city will allow for a sea of Geordie pandemonium to erupt. The Town Moor event will follow and run until 8pm.

Newcastle parade tickets: where to find them?

The parade is open to the public - no tickets are needed to attend. This decision came after the Town Moor event was criticised for being a ticketed event despite everyone who applied being successful.

Estimates range from 200,000 to 400,000 supporters turning up on the day to commend Newcastle. Supporters from further afield have booked flights and hotels to sample the moment.

Newcastle parade route: where will the bus go?

The bus will travel from St James’ Park, past the STACK, towards Eldon Square and up Percy Street - passing Haymarket - on its way to the Town Moor. A list of the road closures are as follows:

Barrack Road (from St. James’ Park to Gallowgate)

Gallowgate

Percy Street

B1318 (to Great North Road)

Great North Road

Council statement

Councillor Karen Kilgour, Leader of Newcastle City Council, sent a message to supporters ahead of the “monumental” event. She said: “This is a monumental and exciting event for the city as we come together to celebrate this amazing achievement.

“We know how much this event means to the city, and we’ve worked closely with our partners to ensure that everyone can be part of this historic occasion. This will be one of the biggest events we have seen in the city, and the safety of everyone attending is paramount.

“With huge crowds expected, we want everyone to enjoy it and get there and home safely so there will be a number of road closures required, and we’re asking people to plan ahead and use public transport. I am sure it will be a fantastic and proud day for our city and I can’t wait to be there.”
