Premier League make huge change to transfer window due to 'exceptional' events

Premier League clubs have confirmed that there will be two separate 2025 summer transfer windows this summer, based upon the dates of the clashing FIFA Club World Cup.

A provisional start date of June 16 had been locked in, however this is two days after FIFA's revamped 32-team tournament to be held in the United States is due to begin.

Chelsea are one competitor, as are Manchester City, having both ranked highly in UEFA's coefficient scoring over qualifying years. It was confirmed on Wednesday the overall winner receives a grand £97m jackpot.

It was FIFA's decision to grant special dispensation and allow regional governing bodies to open a brief period for business before the Club World Cup starts, but left this at their individual discretion.

So it was a key topic scheduled for the meeting between all 20 English top-flight member clubs in London on Thursday morning. The subsequent statement was released confirming the dates for the upcoming double summer transfer window.

"Premier League clubs have today agreed the dates for the Summer 2025 Transfer Window," it read.

"The window will open early, between Sunday, June 1 and Tuesday, June 10, due to an exceptional registration period relating to the FIFA Club World Cup.

"It will then reopen on Monday, June 16 and close on Monday, September 1."

This therefore allows Enzo Maresca and his Blues recruitment staff the opportunity to make additions to their squad early in the summer if they so please, benefitting them heading into the Club World Cup.

After all, the group stages only begin three weeks after the 2024/25 campaign comes to a close. The time between has more international fixtures scheduled, so fresh legs may be the order of the day.

It just so happens that Premier League clubs not taking part in FIFA's new showpiece competition - that being Arsenal, Tottenham, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Brentford - can benefit and begin their business 15 days early if their houses are in order.
