The city is gearing up to celebrate Newcastle United's cup heroes this weekend and for one fan in particular, it will be a day to remember.

An open-top bus trophy parade and a huge party will be held on Saturday, March 29, to celebrate the team's historic Carabao Cup win over Liverpool.

The clubs 'oldest' season ticket holder, John Beeby will be out amongst fans to cheer on his beloved team. The 95-year-old from Newburn has attended an impressive 1,777 games in his 40 years as a season ticket holder and witnessed many incredible football moments within that time.

Having previously told ChronicleLive that seeing his team lift a trophy was a bucket list dream that never seemed to become a reality - he is now set to join the tens of thousands of NUFC fans expected to line the streets of Newcastle city centre to watch the trophy parade.

John said: "I’ll be at the parade welcoming the team home with the cup. I’m proud to say I’ve been a supporter of Newcastle United for the last 70 years through thick and thin and watched the parade last time they won a cup.

"I’ve waited a long time for this and to see them finally bringing home a cup after all these years is a dream come true, they were brilliant and really deserved it."

John also attended the 2023 Carabao Cup Final at Wembley was overjoyed to see the Toon win this time around just under two weeks ago. He decided to watch the 2025 final against Liverpool at his daughter's house with family after struggling with the walk along Wembley Way to the stadium.

Saturday will see the club leave St James' Park on an open-top bus pass down Gallowgate and onto Percy Street before turning onto the Great North Road heading towards a celebration party on the Town Moor.

John will attend the parade with his daughters Duina and Daniella. Duina Beeby added: "We'll be there to keep an eye on him, he'll be really excited. He’s chuffed to bits they’re having a parade as the Town Moor would have been a bit too much for him."
