The New York Giants have spent the offseason rebuilding their quarterback room following a 3-14 season, and most around the league assumed it was all leading to one thing-drafting a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick. But according to NFL insider Peter Schrager, that might not be the lock many thought it was.
Speaking Thursday morning on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football", Schrager revealed that the Giants' recent moves-adding Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston-have opened the door to a much more flexible draft strategy.
"Absolutely," Schrager said when asked if there's a scenario where the Giants pass on a quarterback. "If Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter is higher on their board, this gives them the luxury that they don't have to take Shedeur Sanders."
If Shedeur Sanders is there at 3, are the Giants set on taking him?

For weeks, Sanders had been projected as a likely fit in New York. But now, with two veterans in the building and other young talent already on the roster, the front office may go in a different direction.
Schrager noted that the Giants have never held a private workout with Sanders, and emphasized that head coach Brian Daboll, offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, and quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney haven't even seen him throw live-only on film from Colorado. He added that Sanders' pro day, scheduled for April 4, is considered "late," and said the timing could end up working against him.
"They're not hellbent on Shedeur Sanders," Schrager added.
Schrager said there's a real case to be made for the Giants to target a top defensive prospect instead, noting that Abdul Carter has drawn comparisons to Micah Parsons, while Travis Hunter is viewed as a rare two-way talent who could make an immediate impact.
He also pointed to reasons for optimism on the current roster, mentioning young standouts like Malik Nabers-who broke every rookie receiving record in franchise history-and Tyrone Tracy, who eclipsed over 1,100 total yards.
Combined with the team's 1-9 record in one-score games, Schrager believes there's more talent in place than people realize.
