The New England Patriots made a big addition to their wide receiver room on Tuesday as they agreed to terms with Stefon Diggs on a three-year, $69 million deal that includes $26 million in guarantees. The move addressed a key need after the team struggled to move the ball through the air in 2024.
Patriots legends Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman discussed the move on the Dudes on Dudes podcast. The four-time All-Pro tight end stated:
I think it was the right move for New England to bring him in. New England needs a guy, they need wide receivers, they need a No. 1. Stefon Diggs might not be that No. 1, but he will at least be a solid No. 2 and I'm sure he some big playmaking ability left in the tank. 31 years old, coming off an ACL, he's working every day at it, he's already ahead of schedule, running full speed.
The Super Bowl LIII MVP added:
I like Stefon Diggs in New England because Stefon Diggs is still pissed off at the Bills. There's gonna be hunger and there's gonna be urgency, and there's gonna be a fire under his a** in the meeting room, when he's in New England, at practice, which they could use. They could use a little fire under their a** in that receiving room.

Diggs missed the final nine games of the 2024 season after suffering a torn ACL in Week 8. The two-time All-Pro wide receiver is reportedly on track to make his Patriots debut in Week 1. He recorded 496 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 47 receptions last season while adding one rushing touchdown.
New England may not be done addressing the wide receiver position. They ranked just 30th in scoring offense, 31st in total yards, 31st in passing touchdowns, and 32nd in passing yards.
