Man Utd travel to face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League next week.
Chris Wood has been ruled out of Nottingham Forest's huge FA Cup quarter-final tie against Brighton this weekend and is a doubt for their upcoming match with Manchester United in the Premier League.
The 33-year-old striker was forced off as New Zealand secured their place at the World Cup with a 3-0 victory over New Caledonia on Monday night and will not feature for them this weekend. Wood landed awkwardly after he took a shot in the match and was unable to continue before he limped off the pitch as he was substituted. The striker did return to the pitch to celebrate qualification with his teammates but won’t be fit enough to feature this weekend.
It is a huge blow to Forest as they look to cap an excellent season with a trip to Wembley in the FA Cup and qualification for the Champions League. It is not yet clear if Wood will be available when they host United in the Premier League next week, but he will not be available for the quarter-final trip to Brighton on Saturday.
Forest confirm huge injury blow to key player
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon, Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo ruled Chris Wood out of the FA Cup quarter-final tie against Brighton this weekend. "He went for a scan today. We are still waiting. He has been to a specialist for a scan. We will wait on the information and see.
"He will not be available for this game. He felt a kick really hard on his hip so there is pain there. We have to wait."
Forest host Manchester United in the Premier League on Tuesday night and it is not clear whether or not he will be available for that match either. Pushed for a further squad update, Espirito Santo added: "Every time there is an international break we have to assess. Many of them just arrived today. We are still waiting on Ramon Sosa tomorrow and we will assess all of them."
