Report: Luke Shaw's £200,000 Man United contract has one exception that his teammates were denied

Extra details in Luke Shaw’s Manchester United contract have been revealed.

Remarkably, it has been over one year since Luke Shaw last started a game for Manchester United.

During that time, the 29-year-old has earned over £8million on the sidelines. Shaw has returned to training and could be available for Ruben Amorim after the international break.

But United will have to be careful not to extend Shaw’s terrible injury record by rushing him back into action against Nottingham Forest.

Amorim has defended Shaw and promised the United star he will have as much time as needed to return to full fitness, but his lack of availability has been frustrating for the fanbase.

Luke Shaw’s Champions League clause in Man United contract

After a strong run of form under Erik ten Hag, Shaw signed a contract until 2027 and he was given a pay rise that reflected his role as a key part of the squad.

It was understood that Shaw is earning £150,000 per week on his current deal, but it seems the figure could be even higher.

According to The Athletic, Shaw’s deal signed in 2023 was actually worth £200,000 per week plus bonuses on top.

Like the rest of the United squad, there is a clause that reduces his wages if the Red Devils fail to qualify for the Champions League.

But the report claims that Shaw’s Champions League clause is “less than the standard 25 percent across the squad.” Therefore there is less of a financial impact for the England international if United fall short.

Luke Shaw has two months to save his Man United career

Despite Amorim wanting to give Shaw time to recover, he is under pressure to keep his spot in this United squad.

Amorim warned players about a summer overhaul and Shaw could find himself involved in Ineos’ transfer plans if he can’t stay fit.

It is still not clear where Shaw’s strongest position will be under Amorim. Shaw could feature as a centre-back in the back three rather than as a wing-back where Patrick Dorgu has impressed.

Shaw missed out on an England call-up in March due to his injury setback and he will also want to get back into the national team in time for the 2026 World Cup.

United’s Premier League campaign ends on May 25th and the first of two transfer windows opens on June 1st.
