What Gabriel Agbonlahor is hearing about Mohamed Salah as pundit suggests Liverpool are in a 'bad place'

The future of Mohamed Salah remains up in the air at Liverpool.

The Egyptian star is out of contract at Anfield at the end of the season and the Merseyside club are yet to agree a new contract with the 32-year-old, despite the season heading into April.

This week, the news broke that Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer, which will have Liverpool fans worried about the futures of Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Robbie Fowler believes the Liverpool trio will all leave the Merseyside club at the end of he season, although the Premier League leaders were hoping to make progress on new contracts for both Salah and Van Dijk during the current international window.

TalkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor has shared what he has heard about the situation of Salah and it is not good news for Liverpool fans.

Gabriel Agbonlahor suggests what is happening between Liverpool and Mohamed Salah

It remains uncertain what is holding up a deal between Liverpool and Salah as it is clear that the Egyptian superstar would like to remain at the Premier League leaders next season.

Salah is the highest-paid player at Liverpool with the winger earning around £350,000 a week on Merseyside and being 32, the Reds are unlikely to offer him more than that for the upcoming years.

Al-Hilal are one club interested in Salah and if the Egyptian star decides to move to the Middle East this summer, the Liverpool forward would likely be earning around double, if not triple, his current salary.

Speaking about Salah’s situation on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor has stated that he has heard rumours that the Liverpool star is leaving Anfield, with the former Aston Villa forward seemingly putting it down to money.

“I didn’t say certain, I heard rumours that he might be,” Agbonlahor stated on Salah leaving. “I just think that Mo Salah is probably asking for crazy money.

“It would not surprise me if he’s asking for, let’s say he would get £1m-a-week in Saudi. If Liverpool are offering 300k, he’s probably saying: ‘nah, I want to be the highest paid player in the Premier’.

“Maybe he is saying to Liverpool: ‘I want more than Haaland. Haaland has just signed an eight-year contract, I want more than what he is earning. I deserve it, I am the best player in the Premier League this season, scored the most goals. Pay me or I move on’. Liverpool are in a bad place, negotiations-wise.”

Money is not the issue between Mohamed Salah and Liverpool

Salah has shown with his comments this season that the issues with his Liverpool contract are unlikely to be down to money. If they were, the Egyptian would have already agreed a deal to move to Saudi Arabia, where he would earn more next year, no matter what the Reds offer the 32-year-old.

It seems that the decision over the Liverpool forward’s future is motivated by legacy as Salah is closing in on several records this season, and the Egypt international will undoubtedly break more over the years to come should he sign a new deal at Anfield.

It remains unclear what is holding up a new contract between Liverpool and Salah, which is similar to Van Dijk, but it is fair to say everyone at the Merseyside club hope to see the duo at Anfield next season as the Reds will need the pair to help defend their potential Premier League title.
