EXCLUSIVE: Danny Murphy Names The“Stand Out”Defender That He Would Sign For Liverpool

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has said that the Reds should sign Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez.

Liverpool look set to lose Trent Alexander-Arnold who has agreed personal terms with Real Madrid, meaning that he will leave Anfield without a transfer fee, due to becoming a free agent in the summer.

On the other side of defence, many have been critical of Andy Robertson this season, suggesting that Liverpool should replace him. They have been linked to Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez and Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri as potential replacements for the Scottish international in the summer transfer window.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has said which of the two he thinks the Reds should sign this summer. He told Walk.com via Poker Firma: “In an ideal world you would want someone to come in like Kerkez. For me, he is probably a stand out, I’ve seen him numerous times I’ve seen him three times live as well where you always get a bit more perspective on a player.”

“Lovely technician, great energy, great going forward but good on the one on ones as well. He’s a terrific young player who I think would be a great signing but I think I choose him ahead of Ait-Nouri think he’s better defensively.

“I don’t think Liverpool are going to lose the league next season or lose their ability to be competitive in the Champions league by not signing the left back because I think Robbo [Robertson] is good enough and yeah he can cover but an ideal world yes you’d want to bring someone in.”

Could Robertson leave Liverpool?

The Scottish international has made 27 Premier League appearances for the Reds this season, clearly showing that Arne Slot trusts the 31-year-old to succeed in his back four.

However, seeing as rumours have emerged linking Liverpool with left-backs, it leaves his future uncertain, as it is unlikely that he will want to play a backup role at Anfield.

Robertson’s contract at Liverpool expires next summer however, so they will likely keep him for one more year, before allowing him to leave in 2026.
