Man United have reportedly fallen behind Liverpool in their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong.
United look set to sign at least one wing-back as they look to add players who can play the role in Ruben Amorim’s system, something that they currently lack.
One such player that was identified was Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong, who had been linked to United alongside rivals Manchester City.

Frimpong has made 26 Bundesliga appearances so far this season, scoring four goals and providing three assists in what has been a particularly impressive season for the 24-year-old.
However, there is cause for concern with United’s interest in Frimpong, as according to Foot Italia, Liverpool are now the firm favourites to land the Dutch full-back.
They say that Liverpool are the front runners at odds of 4/6, ahead of Man United at 2/1 and Man City at 4/1. It comes after the announcement that Trent Alexander-Arnold is set for a summer move to Real Madrid, meaning that the Reds will need to find a replacement.
The Standard are reporting that a £30 million agreement has already been made between Liverpool and Leverkusen, which would be a major blow to Man United’s transfer plans for the summer.
Who could Man United sign instead of Frimpong?
The Red Devils all but need a right-wing back, due to the fact that Diogo Dalot is their current option and he is simply not a wing-back. It means that if Frimpong isn’t available, United may have to look elsewhere to find their newest defender.
One right-back who United have been linked to in recent weeks is Barcelona defender Jules Kounde, who has also been connected with a move to Arsenal.
Kounde is expected to cost significantly more than the £30m reported for Frimpong to Liverpool, however, his quality speaks for itself.
The Frenchman has made over 130 appearances during his time with Barcelona, scoring six goals and providing 18 assists. Although he is more defensive than Frimpong, he does like to get forward with his pace, and could be ideal in Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation.
However, due to his estimated market value of around £50m, plus the fact that Barcelona would likely be reluctant to sell him, it could be a tough deal for Man United to complete.
