Hite, known for his evocative storytelling and melodic prowess, penned the song during a transformative period in his life. Following a battle with bowel cancer, football—and specifically Chelsea FC—became a source of strength and solace for him. Attending matches at Stamford Bridge during his chemotherapy treatment, Hite found himself deeply moved by the collective experience of the crowd, which inspired him to write the song.
‘Football is a great unifier. Whether you’re a bricklayer or a barrister, when you’re in the stadium, all that matters is the game,’ says Hite. ‘This song came from that feeling—of belonging, of escape, of passion.’
Hite collaborated on the track with **Rob King**, which was brought to life by **Grammy-winning composer and producer Lorne Balfe**, a fellow Chelsea supporter with an illustrious career scoring some of the biggest films, TV series, and video games, including _Top Gun: Maverick, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Wallace & Gromit_, and _The Crown_.
Adding an extra layer of Chelsea history to the song, Balfe’s father, **David Balfe**, was the writer behind the club’s legendary anthem **‘Blue is the Colour.’**
Now fully recovered Hite is excited to share **“Take Me to Stamford Bridge”** with fellow Chelsea supporters and music lovers alike.
Cherry Red Records, one of London’s most respected independent labels, is proud to release the track, solidifying its connection to both football culture and music.
