Wojciech Szczesny has proven to be a reliable player since making his debut for FC Barcelona in January earlier this year.
While there were a few hiccups early on, the 34-year-old veteran shot-stopper, signed as an emergency after Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s injury in September, has proven himself to be a trustworthy option and become Hansi Flick’s preferred choice in goal.
Given his performances so far, Barcelona have decided to proceed with a contract extension for Szczesny, with his current deal expiring at the end of the ongoing season.
99% chance of renewal
Amid speculations in Spain that Szczesny has decided to continue at Barcelona, Polish journalists Tomasz Wlodarczyk and Lukasz Wisniowski have brought forward the latest update on the situation.
Wlodarczyk has claimed that Szczesny is leaning towards a new contract at Barcelona until 2026, giving his extension a ‘99% chance’.

“There’s a 99% chance that Wojciech Szczesny will extend his contract with Barcelona until at least the end of next season,” he revealed.
Building on that, Wisniowski stated that there are unlikely to be any economic problems for the deal to go through.
“I don’t think money will be a problem. Szczesny’s camp knows how to capitalise on the fact that he plays for Barcelona,” he explained.
The journalist further remarked that Szczesny and his family feel very comfortable in Barcelona and that the Pole will not want to drag out the matter of his extension for long out of respect for Inaki Pena, who is staring at an uncertain future at the club.
So far, Szczesny has made 16 appearances for Barcelona and is yet to taste a single defeat, winning 14 of those matches (D2).
There has been talk of the Blaugrana offering him a new deal with the 1+1 formula.
