It is a huge few days coming up for Tottenham Hotspur with wins a priority. For Ange Postecoglou's side, games against Chelsea and Southampton are on the calendar following the completion of the first international break of 2025.
Tottenham Hotspur Women also have a vital fixture when they travel to Leicester City this weekend. Robert Vilahamn and his players are going through a really bad run of form at present and they need to get three points on the board to try and stop those below them in the league table closing in.
Once the game at Leicester has come to an end, a number of Tottenham players will head off on international duty. So, with a break in play coming up, Spurs will be looking to finish on a positive note by getting the better of the Foxes.
Here we take a look at the latest news coming out of N17 ahead of such a key match in the season for the Lilywhites.
Vilahamn on latest Spurs defeat
It is now six defeats on the bounce for Vilahamn's side after losing 2-0 away at West Ham last Sunday. Josefine Rybrink's own goal gave the Hammers an early lead, before Viviane Asseyi doubled the advantage in the 90th minute of the contest.
Tottenham are now ninth in the Women's Super League table after 17 games, with Leicester in 10th only two points behind. The sides meet in a huge contest on Sunday afternoon at the King Power Stadium.
Despite Tottenham's latest defeat, Vilahamn saw an improvement in his team's performance and admitted that "everything is not total darkness".
“Very tough to lose another game," he told Tottenham's official website. “It’s not fun to lose several games in a row and we want to make sure we get better.
“However, performance-wise, this is a much better game than the last few, we had some good build-up, we had some really good patterns to break the lines and we created some good chances, so it was more that they were clinical when they get those opportunities.
“But it was a big step forward in the performance and you need to look at it in two ways, everything is not total darkness, you need to look at the performance and how the players tried to play our football.”
What Spurs can take forward
Eveliina Summanen also spoke after the game and reflected on the defeat and the "small margins" that decided the contest. Ahead of such a crucial game at Leicester City, the Spurs star outlined what the team can take forward as they bid to return to winning ways.
“We need to keep on fighting,” she told Tottenham's official website. “We showed fight again, like I said, it was just small margins but we just need the want to win, to score and to work hard for each other.
“We can take the bravery as we wanted to play, even though the conditions are not the easiest, we still tried to play our way and we worked really hard again. I think those are the two things we can always take forward with us and focus on Leicester, how we can score and get that positive winning feeling back.”
A century to celebrate as another landmark looms
Sunday's defeat at West Ham would have been a bittersweet day for Martha Thomas as the Scotland international had reason to celebrate. Her outing at the Chigwell Construction Stadium was in fact her 100th appearance in the Barclay's Women's Super League.
Thomas' century consists of 36 Tottenham appearances, 38 from her time at Manchester United and 26 as a West Ham player. Another milestone is on the horizon very soon as she is only two games away from a half century of Tottenham appearances in all competitions.
That landmark will come at home to Aston Villa on Sunday, April 20 providing that she plays in this Sunday's game at Leicester City.
International stars
Tottenham may have no representatives in Sarina Wiegman's 25-player squad for England's upcoming UEFA Women's Nations League double header against Belgium but three players will be representing England Under-23s. Eleanor Heeps, Lenna Gunning-Williams and Ella Morris are the trio in question after getting the nod for the Young Lionesses' games against Spain and then either Belgium or Sweden.
Tottenham also have a number of other players who will be heading off on international duty after this weekend's game against Leicester City. Luana Buhler (Switzerland), Lize Kop (Netherlands), Anna Csiki (Hungary), Olivia Holdt (Denmark), Hayley Raso, Charlotte Grant and Clare Hunt (all Australia) will be playing for their respective nations next month.
